Happy New Year: Fresh Plans for My Illustration Blog
Hello and Happy New Year! ✨
I’m kicking off 2025 by setting a new intention: re-launching my illustration blog and posting consistently! I want to connect more meaningfully with you - art directors, commissioners, and anyone who is interested in my illustration journey.
I’ll be sharing:
Comics! I’m going to share personal comics and also launch a Nala the Beagle series based on my dog’s antics. (Another pet comic out in the world, because why not?)
Behind-the-scenes looks at how I approach illustration projects, from concept to completion.
Personal stories, tips, and the inspiration behind my work. Especially around themes of Welsh folklore, nature, and storytelling.
The decisions that shape my process (or artistic ‘style’) and how I adapt to clients’ unique needs.
Useful tools and downloadable worksheets I’ve developed to streamline my workflow for client projects.
Whether you’re curious about my process, want to learn more about professional illustration, or simply here to enjoy the art… I hope you’ll find these posts helpful and fun to read!
Why Blog?
In short, social media algorithms are poop and blogging is back from the dead. I want to focus on sharing content I’m passionate about on my own terms and connect with people here on my website blog. I’d like to post at least once a month where my schedule allows, and sometimes more if I can. From here, I’ll adapt short updates for LinkedIn so feel free to connect with me there too! I’m thinking about sharing on Substack too, as I’ve found myself spending more time there. You can always subscribe to my Newsletter for a quarterly round-up of blog posts, updates, and exclusive resources straight to your inbox away from social media.
While I’ll continue to post occasionally on Instagram (linked to my Facebook page), I’ve found the platform less rewarding for professional illustrators without an existing following and not where I want to put most of my energy. The algo limits visibility, and I’d much rather focus on creating high-quality illustrations rather than feeling pressured to produce content daily purely for social media. Instead, I’ll use it for fun things like art challenges or keeping up with friends in a very chill (not slave to the algo) kind of way.
A New Look for the Blog
With this relaunch comes a tidy up, a fresh name and (of course) updated visuals…
What do you think?
What’s on my Palette, like what’s on my mind and what’s on my plate?
Haha… as ever, I am a sucker for some forced wordplay that likely only amuses myself.
Looking Ahead
This year, I’m excited to collaborate with art directors and commissioners who are looking for an illustrator with a love for Welsh folklore, nature, and storytelling.
Also some of the more exciting challenges last year came out of projects with unexpected subjects that I enjoyed so I’m open to have a go at anything!
If that sounds like you, or if you just want to explore my work, take a look at my portfolio and reach out. I’d love to hear from you 😊
